1982: Random Breath Testing

Breath testing equipment - In December 1982, random breath testing was introduced in the ACT. At the time, the blood alcohol limit was 0.08. The motorist was asked to ‘blow in the bag’ which was fitted with a tube containing yellow dichromate crystals. If the crystals turned green past the yellow line it was a positive result. (Cat. 1984: Maralinga Mail Bag​

Mail bag - The Australian Protective Service (APS) was in operation from 1984 to 2004, drawn from several of the protective functions of the AFP. The APS at Maralinga protected the public from any hazardous substances remaining at the test sites through surveillance and controlled entry to the area. Donated by Debra Wubbles. (Cat. 1983: UN Landrover

Landrover - Australian police have been deployed to Cyprus on peacekeeping duties from 1964 to the present day. This Landrover was used from 1980 to 1987 for patrolling the UN buffer zone, medical evacuations, humanitarian duties and the repatriation of refugees. Donated by the Commanding British Forces in Cyprus. (Cat. No. AFPM7)
