1991: AIDEX protest banner

AIDEX protest banner - In November 1991, about 1200 protesters gathered in Canberra hoping to close down the Australian International Defence Equipment Exhibition (AIDEX) arms fair. Initially protests were peaceful; however, later a group of 300 were intent on stopping AIDEX through unlawful means, subjecting hundreds of AFP members on duty to tense conditions and violence. 1993: Police boat ARGUS​

Model of police boat Argus - Jervis Bay on the NSW south coast comes under the jurisdiction of the AFP. In 1993 it received a new purpose-built police station which replaced the 30 year-old station that had been modified over the years. Using vessels such as Argus, the police play a major role in the recovery of vessels in distress, both in territorial and surrounding waters. Donated by Sue Ross. (Cat. No. AFPM2102)

1992: Mine warning sign

Mine warning sign - AFP peacekeepers were part of the United Nations mission in Cambodia (UNTAC) established to supervise that nation’s first democratic elections. They were involved with training local police forces and investigating alleged human rights violations. The skull and cross bones sign indicates the presence of unexploded mines left over from years of conflict dating from the late 1960s and the Khmer Rouge period. (Cat. No. AFPM2101)
