1979: Female Police Uniform

1979

Female police uniform - The Australian Federal Police was formed on 19 October 1979 from an amalgamation of other organisations. This type of uniform was used for female police officers from the 1970s to 1987 with the new insignia denoting the change of organisation.

1981: CHOGM Melbourne​

T-shirt - The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) was held in Melbourne in 1981. The AFP provided dignitary protection and protective security intelligence to identify possible threats. This was the first CHOGM held in Australia since the Hilton Hotel bombing of 1978 which contributed to the formation of the AFP. Donated by Andrea Humphrys. (Cat. No. AFPM2094)​

1980: Platypus Magazine

1980

Platypus magazine - In July 1980, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) installed its first computer equipment, as captured in Platypus magazine. Unlike the modern day desktop computer, all information was sent to a central unit for processing before being sent back to the individual user.
