1994: Election banner

Election banner - Two AFP peacekeeping contingents went to Mozambique to participate in a United Nations mission to restore law and order after years of civil war. The UN mandate was to verify the demobilisation and disarmament of forces and the withdrawal of foreign troops, to assist and monitor the organisation of elections, and to coordinate humanitarian assistance. This fabric election banner reminds residents of the importance of voting for the future of Mozambique. (Cat. No. AFPM2103)

1996: Red Notice

Red notice - Christopher Skase was a high profile Australian businessman wanted for fraud and embezzlement. He fled to Majorca, Spain in 1989 after the collapse of his Australian business empire, Qintex. This red notice, Interpol’s highest level of alert, was issued in 1996 for Christopher Skase. The AFP is Interpol’s agent in Australia and the two organisations worked together in the media-dubbed ‘Chase for Skase’. Donated by Adam Masters. (Cat. No. AFPM2105)

1995: Laboratory Door 

Laboratory door - The Japanese handwriting on this door refers to a laboratory established by the Aum Shinrikyo sect on a rural station in Western Australia. There they conducted tests on the nerve gas sarin. The sect was responsible for the 1995 gassing of a Tokyo subway in which 12 people died and more than 5500 people were injured.
